A Sacred Journey from Madurai to the Southern Tip of India

4 Nights / 5 Days Spiritual Itinerary

Madurai - Rameshwaram - Tiruchendur - Kanyakumari - Trivandrum

Day 1 - Arrival in Madurai & Spiritual Exploration

Your holy expedition begins in the ancient city of Madurai, often referred to as the 'Athens of the East'. Upon your arrival at Madurai Airport or Railway Station, you will be warmly received by the South India Tours & Travels representative. After checking into your hotel, we proceed to the world-famous Meenakshi Amman Temple. This architectural marvel, with its 14 magnificent gopurams, is dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar. Spend time exploring the Hall of Thousand Pillars and the sacred Golden Lotus tank.

In the afternoon, we visit the Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace, a 17th-century masterpiece known for its giant white pillars and intricate stucco work. As evening approaches, visit the Alagar Kovil temple situated on a scenic hill and the Pazhamudhir Cholai, one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan. Experience the vibrant culture of Madurai by walking through the local markets famous for jasmine flowers and handloom sarees. Overnight stay in Madurai.

Day 2 - Madurai to Rameshwaram (The Sacred Island)

After a traditional breakfast, we depart for the holy island of Rameshwaram. The journey is made iconic as we cross the Pamban Bridge, offering a spectacular 360-degree view of the Indian Ocean. Upon arrival, visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple. This temple is home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and boasts the longest temple corridor in the world, adorned with beautiful stone carvings.

Prior to the main darshan, pilgrims typically take a holy dip in the 22 Theerthams (sacred wells) located within the temple complex, believed to wash away sins. In the evening, visit Agni Theertham sea shore and Lakshmana Tirtham. Explore the local island life and enjoy the spiritual vibrations of this legendary town. Overnight stay in Rameshwaram.

Day 3 - Rameshwaram - Dhanushkodi - Tiruchendur

Early in the morning, we head to Dhanushkodi, the ghost town located at the southeastern tip of India. Witness the confluence of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean (Mahodadhi and Ratnakara). The ruins of the church and railway station from the 1964 cyclone provide a haunting yet beautiful backdrop to the 'Ram Setu' point. After exploring this surreal landscape, we begin our drive towards Tiruchendur.

Tiruchendur is famous for the Subramanya Swamy Temple, uniquely situated right on the shores of the Bay of Bengal. It is the only one of the 'Arupadai Veedu' (Six Abodes) located on the coast rather than a hilltop. After offering prayers at this powerful seashore temple, enjoy the soothing sound of the waves and the divine sunset. Overnight stay in Tiruchendur.

Day 4 - Tiruchendur to Kanyakumari (The Land's End)

After breakfast, we proceed to Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of mainland India. Our first stop is a ferry ride to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, built on a massive rock where Swami Vivekananda meditated. Adjacent to it stands the 133-foot tall Thiruvalluvar Statue, dedicated to the immortal Tamil poet.

In the afternoon, visit the Kumari Amman Temple, dedicated to the virgin goddess. We also explore the Gandhi Memorial, where the ashes of the Mahatma were kept for public view, and the Suchindram Thanumalayan Temple, famous for its musical pillars. The highlight of the day is the spectacular sunset at the beach, where you can see the sun sinking into the confluence of the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean. Overnight stay in Kanyakumari.

Day 5 - Kanyakumari to Trivandrum Departure

On your final day, wake up early to witness the breathtaking sunrise—a rare sight where you can see the sun rise from the ocean. After breakfast, we check out and drive towards Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram). We stop at the Padmanabhapuram Palace, an exquisite 16th-century wooden palace reflecting traditional Kerala architecture.

Upon reaching Trivandrum, visit the world-renowned Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, the richest temple in the world (Note: Strict dress code applies). If time permits, visit the Napier Museum or take a quick stroll at Kovalam Beach. Finally, our South India Tours & Travels representative will transfer you to Trivandrum Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey, marking the end of your soul-stirring 5-day pilgrimage. Tour ends with divine memories.
